A Flower Each Spring Program‎‎‎

Under the generous sponsorship of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation, the ‘Flower Each Spring’ program was launched in 1999 as part of Qatar Foundation’s programs. In November 2016, the program became a part of various initiatives and activities organized by Qatar Botanic Garden (QBG), such as ‘Fun and Learn’, ‘Young Botanist’, ‘Plant Competition’, and the ‘Ghars’ campaign. The ‘Flower Every Spring’ program is a vital initiative towards promoting environmental awareness and education in the State of Qatar. With its focus on preserving biodiversity and sustainable development, it serves as a model for other countries to follow.

Program Objectives

The ‘Flower Every Spring’ program focuses on environmental education, particularly on wildlife in the State of Qatar, its expansion, and benefits. Every year, one of Qatar’s natural plants is selected to be highlighted. The program aligns with QBG’s objectives and directions in the fields of botany, environmental education, and the preservation of environmental and cultural heritage. It spreads knowledge about plants, preserves the environment and biodiversity in the State of Qatar, and supports Qatar Foundation’s efforts to achieve sustainable development.

Educational Day at the Flower Each Spring Camp

Transport assistance is provided to interested individuals to visit the permanent camp in Ras Al-Matbakh in Al-Khor city, where visitors can participate in an educational environmental day that combines education and recreation. The program encourages visitors to become protectors of the environment and make more environmentally-conscious decisions.

Environmental Awareness Stations

Establishing fixed stations for environmental awareness programs, as well as the Flower Each Spring program, contributes to attracting the public and transforming markets into centers for spreading environmental awareness. These interactive stations attract children and adults to environmental activities aimed at instilling concepts of caring for and celebrating nature.

Objectives of the Program

Objectives of the program include increasing community awareness of the importance of vegetation cover, its role in preserving the environment from degradation and desertification, observing the necessary conditions to protect the planet from the effects of climate change, rationalizing water and energy usage, consumption of natural resources, and adopting sustainable utilization habits. Additionally, the program aims to develop the capabilities of innovation and creativity in the fields of environmental development, preserve biodiversity, apply a balanced view of the natural environment, and care for the seas as a major source of life support and environmental sustainability.

National Events Participation

The ‘Flower Each Spring’ program has become a regular feature at various nationwide events. This includes all national celebrations and days of local, regional, and global significance. The program has been successfully integrated into events such as National Day and National Sport Day, and has been a prominent part of other events such as ‘The White Cane’ and the ‘Environment Festival’. One notable event was the celebration of the murals at Al Wakrah Mall, where the program was showcased in all its glory. The event was a great success and attracted a large number of visitors, who were fascinated by the program’s mission to preserve and promote the environment. Another event that garnered a lot of attention was the release of Greeno the bird in Al Khor Park. The bird was found injured and taken into custody to nurse it back to health. After its recovery, the proagram organized a symbolic event to release the bird back into the wild. The event was attended by dozens of children and visitors to the park, who were delighted to witness the release of the bird.
