GCC visitors increase fourfold to Qatar

The high increase in tourist arrivals to Qatar in December of last year was mostly due to visitors from nations in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

According to official statistics provided by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA), the nation has drawn tourists from a variety of places, with visitors from the GCC accounting for 40% of all arrivals. Over 1.4 million people attended the FIFA World Cup in 2022, which enhanced demand in the tourist and hospitality industries. According to the statistics, 613,612 visitors visited in December 2022 as opposed to 146,934 in the same month of 2021, representing a staggering increase of over 300 percent on an annual basis. In December 2022, the nation welcomed 244,261 tourists from the GCC, up from 44,612 in the same month the previous year. This represents an increase of 447.5 percent yearly. The number of visitors from the GCC reached 128,423 in November 2022, an increase of 90.2% on a monthly basis.
