Giant illuminated kites to be a part of 10 day Balloon Festival

The third Qatar Balloon Festival, which will feature not only hot air balloons that will dazzle the night sky but also unexpected surprises for local and foreign guests arriving for the event, is planned to take place from January 19 to 28 at a new site at Old Doha Port.

Along with a wide variety of international cuisines offered at food kiosks, inflatable toys for kids, and a new feature added this year – a display of enormous kites that will be illuminated at night – music and live performances are among the entertainment options available during the 10-day festival. The festival’s organizer, Hassan Al Mousawi, CEO of Safe Flight Solutions, told The Peninsula yesterday at the press conference held at the Mina Hotel that the 2023 edition will differ from previous years in three key ways: it will be held in a new location at the Old Doha Port; there will be 50 hot air balloons participating, up from 30 and 40 in the previous two editions; and kite displays will be added in the afternoon and at night.
