Human rights and climate change conference organized by NHRC

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the League of Arab States, and the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) will all collaborate with the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) to host an international conference on “human rights and climate change” from February 21 to 22.

More than 300 representatives from nations, international organisations, think tanks, universities, national human rights institutions, civil society organisations, and international experts will participate in the conference. They will discuss climate change issues from the perspective of human rights and offer specific suggestions for rights-based climate action. The goal of the conference is to highlight the significance of rights-based climate action, highlight pertinent best practises for the State of Qatar and other actors and partners, including governments, the UN, civil society organisations, and businesses, and develop recommendations to improve cooperation to support rights-based climate action globally, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa region.
