International praise for Qatar’s plastic pollution reduction

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM was the first carbon-neutral and ecologically sustainable World Cup, and the Asia Pacific Region Group of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) applauded the State of Qatar‘s efforts to decrease plastic litter.

The group took note of the mechanism for sorting waste and trash, as well as the steps taken by the State of Qatar to lessen the use of plastic at sporting events through consumption reduction and recycling in accordance with the circular economy’s guiding principles and the Plastics Treaty’s global trends.

This happened after the State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, took part in the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) meeting of the Asia Pacific Region Group to create a binding international law on plastic pollution, which took place in the Republic of Uruguay from November 28 to December 2.

The Department of Radiation and Chemicals Protection attended the conference on behalf of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
