Minister urges environment conservation initiatives

H.E. Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has emphasised the importance of coordinated efforts to protect the environment in the face of enormous global challenges. He reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to eco-friendly growth and preservation.

The minister made this point in his opening remarks for Qatar Sustainability Week 2022 on Sunday, noting that environmental sustainability is one of the four pillars toward achieving sustainable development, and hence is of paramount importance in achieving Qatar National Vision 2030. He noted that Qatar has lofty goals to attain, including a balance between economic expansion, social progress, and environmental protection. He continued by saying that Qatar was one of the first countries to ratify the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 1996, and that over the past 25 years, the country has shown a consistent and strong commitment to meeting the global environmental challenges that have arisen as a result. This commitment has been reflected locally in a number of initiatives, such as the establishment of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) in 2021.
