MoPH introduces ‘Qatar Diabetes and Obesity Research Webinars’ series

The Qatar Diabetes and Obesity Research Webinars series was recently introduced by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and Hamad Medical Corporation.

The National Diabetes Strategy, 2016–2022, and the Qatar National Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Risk Factors Research Agenda both list it as a priority educational programme.

The fortnightly online delivery of the approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme, which is specifically designed for healthcare professionals and researchers, includes both newly developing and regionally pertinent fields of research on diabetes and obesity. Twenty one-hour sessions make up the one-year curriculum.

More than 500 people attended each of the first four Diabetes and Obesity Research Webinars, which were successfully presented. After the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM, in January 2023, there will be another webinar featuring a guest speaker from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom who will discuss “Islet Cell Transplantation and Hypoglycemia.”

The Qatar Diabetes and Obesity Research Webinars series programme has been launched as part of a larger umbrella of activities designed to create the research ecosystem for carrying out the National Diabetes Research Agenda in the State of Qatar, according to Prof. Shahrad Taheri, Chair of the Research Sub-Committee for the National Diabetes Strategy at the Ministry of Public Health.
