QEERI to barce Qatar’s climate change policy

The Economics and Policy Programme at the Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI) is creating a model of Qatar’s energy system to assist in the development of long-term infrastructure planning and climate change mitigation policies.

According to Dr. Marc Vermeersch, Executive Director of QEERI, the initiative, in collaboration with Imperial College London, Kahramaa, and the Al Attiyah Foundation, intends to provide Qatar with a cutting-edge instrument of the same caliber and standard as employed by leading governments globally. Additionally, he stated that the system is being created in accordance with Qatar’s ever-ambitious commitment to carbon emission objectives, which would need a transformation of the country’s entire energy system, including industry, transportation, electricity production, and buildings. “The tool also aims to facilitate multi-stakeholder dialogue around climate change policy in Qatar,” Dr. Vermeersch. Being a part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, QEERI is regarded as one of the top research institutions in the area and has been active in the domains of energy, water, corrosion, and the environment for more than ten years.
