Traffic lawbreakers will face fines

From mid-day till midnight on the days of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM, the highways and streets surrounding the stadiums will be subject to strict traffic controls. Limitations will be in force every day beginning on November 1 until the conclusion of the competition, with the exception of Fridays through the end of this month.

It was announced yesterday during a news conference that a fine of QR500 would be issued for any violation of traffic laws. According to First Lieutenant Khaled al-Mulla, director of the Corniche Closure Committee’s Technical Team, both public and private transportation will be limited on the two highways. There will also be a 2-kilometer no-drive zone around each World Cup venue. The steps, he said, will make it easier for people to get to and from the stadiums and the heart of Doha.

The first of November will mark the start of a new vehicle plate management system in the heart of Doha. Coverage extends from Al Khafji Street in the north to C-Ring Road in the south and west, and Corniche Street in the east.
