Abu Samra Border Crossing gets inspected by PM

This morning, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, conducted a visit to the Abu Samra Border Crossing Project. This collaborative effort between the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal,’ the Ministry of Interior, and the Permanent Committee for the Management of Abu Samra Border Port aims to enhance the port’s capacity ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM.

Dr. Eng. Saad bin Ahmad Al Muhannadi, President of the Public Works Authority, emphasized, “The port extension works will significantly enhance travel to and from Qatar, doubling the previous capacity by expanding passenger car service lanes from 9 to 24 lanes.”

The Abu Samra, Border Crossing Project, involves expanding the customs building for arrivals from 28 to 36 cars and enlarging the passport buildings to accommodate arrivals and departures, increasing their capacity from 9 to 24 vehicles simultaneously.

In preparation for the World Cup, Qatar has constructed a passenger hall spanning 10,000 square meters, capable of serving 2,000 visitors per hour for both arrivals and departures. Additionally, there are 44 Passport and 22 Customs inspection platforms to accommodate the influx of visitors expected during the tournament.
