Canada Thrash Qatar 6-0 in FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B

Jonathan David's hat-trick and two Qatar red cards sealed a historic 6-0 win for Canada at BC Place, the biggest CONCACAF victory in World Cup history.

This was a night Qatar will want to forget.

Canada defeated Qatar 6-0 at BC Place, Vancouver, in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group B match on June 18. It is the biggest win ever recorded by a CONCACAF team in World Cup history. For Qatar, it was a painful evening they finished the match with nine men on the pitch after two red cards and conceded six goals in the process.

Canada now sits at the top of Group B with four points. Qatar’s World Cup campaign is hanging by a thread.

Canada vs Qatar: Match Highlights and Key Moments

Canada started fast and never looked back.

Cyle Larin opened the scoring in the 16th minute, capitalising on a rebound after goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada failed to hold Jonathan David’s volley. The ball fell kindly to Larin, who fired it home in front of a roaring, red-clad crowd of 52,497 at BC Place.

Jonathan David doubled the lead in the 29th minute with a right-footed volley his first goal in open play in over a year. The match was already slipping away from Qatar at this point.

Then came the red cards.

Qatar’s Red Card Disaster

The night went from difficult to chaotic for Al Annabi.

Homam Ahmed received a red card in the first half for a dangerous challenge on Tajon Buchanan. Qatar were reduced to ten men just as they needed to regroup.

Then, early in the second half, Assim Madibo who had been booked in the first half was shown a second yellow card after a tackle on Ismael Kone. That challenge ended Kone’s tournament. The Canadian midfielder was stretchered off the field with a serious injury to his lower left leg.

Qatar were now down to nine men. The floodgates opened.

David’s Hat-Trick and the Full Scoreline

Jonathan David completed his hat-trick with goals in the 45+3rd and 90+2nd minutes. Nathan Saliba added a fifth goal in the 64th minute. Mohamed Al Mannai’s own goal in the 75th minute completed the misery for Qatar.

The final score: Canada 6, Qatar 0.

Full Goal Timeline:

  • 16′ Cyle Larin
  • 29′ Jonathan David
  • 45+3′ Jonathan David
  • 64′ Nathan Saliba
  • 75′ Mohamed Al Mannai (OG)
  • 90+2′ Jonathan David

Canada dominated every statistical category. They took 33 shots compared to Qatar’s 2. They had 65% possession throughout the match. Not a single Qatar attempt was on target.

Canada Makes World Cup History

This result means more than just three points for Canada.

It is Canada’s first-ever World Cup win in men’s football. And with a goal difference of plus-six, they sit at the top of Group B, ahead of Switzerland on goal difference alone.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was in the stands, watching alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino. He had missed Canada’s opening match against Bosnia-Herzegovina due to the G7 summit in France.

With this result, Canada has also tripled its all-time World Cup goal tally in a single match. Before tonight, they had scored just two goals across their entire World Cup history.

Qatar’s World Cup 2026 Hopes After the 6-0 Loss

Qatar came into this match needing a win to keep their knockout stage hopes alive. After earning their first-ever World Cup point against Switzerland in the opening match, there was genuine belief that Al Annabi could compete.

But this was a different level. Two red cards, nine men and six goals against Qatar’s World Cup 2026 campaign now depends entirely on their final group stage match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 24 in Seattle.

Even then, qualifying from the group will require a near-perfect scenario to play out across all Group B results.
