Cuban artist’s mural inaugurated at Katara Cultural Village

At Doha’s Katara Cultural Village, a new mural titled “Friends, Qatar and Cuba” was shown. Painted by Cuban artist Michele Lopez, it is located in Building 15 which is across from Al-Hikma Square. General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation Katara H.E. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti and the Cuban Ambassador to Qatar HE Oscar Leon Jones Eliza attended its opening ceremony. This mural is a part of the larger Katara project to paint murals on various structures in the Cultural Village.

Lopez has been painting large, photorealistic murals of children on the streets of Havana since 2015. Katara is home to numerous murals by both Qatari and international artists. The mural by Iraqi artist Nehru Qader Rashid, “Qatari Features” by Qatari artist Jassem Zaini, “The Challenge” by the late Qatari artist Yousef Al-Sharif Al Sada, “The Oryx Goes Forward” by Argentine artist Martin Ron, “Ocean in the Sky” by the late Qatari artist Wafaa Al-Hamad, and so forth.
