Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: Age, Family and Early Career

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was born on March 27, 2011, in Samastipur, Bihar. He is a left-handed top-order batter. His rise has been extraordinary.

At just 12, he made his first-class debut for Bihar in the Ranji Trophy. That made him one of the youngest players ever to do so. Rajasthan Royals signed him for IPL 2025 at age 13  making him the youngest player ever to receive an IPL contract.

Then came IPL 2026. And everything changed.

How Sooryavanshi Dominated IPL 2026 With 776 Runs

Sooryavanshi’s IPL 2026 season was historic.

He scored 776 runs in the tournament, the most of any player. He was named the Most Valuable Player. He also won the Best Emerging Player award. No player in IPL history has ever won both in the same season.

One innings stood out above all. He smashed 101 off just 38 balls against Gujarat Titans. That made him the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket history. His century came off 35 deliveries, the second fastest in IPL history.

He did this at 14 years old.

Sooryavanshi Named in India’s Senior T20 Squad 2026

The performances could not be ignored. The BCCI has now called Sooryavanshi up to India’s senior T20 squad. If he makes his debut against Ireland or England, he will become the youngest player ever to represent India in international cricket.

He has also been named in India’s 15-member squad for the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. The tournament begins on September 24.

Why Experts Call Sooryavanshi a Future Legend

Experts around the world have taken notice.

Former Australia captain Aaron Finch called him “fearless” and said he has a “serious cricket brain.” Former India batter Ambati Rayudu said Sooryavanshi should be given freedom to play his natural game for the next three to four years.

His bat speed is exceptional. His ability to read the game at his age is rare. He attacks pace and spin with equal confidence. He does not play like a teenager.

He plays like a champion.
