Al Shahania stun Al Wakrah on penalties to secure quarters spot

Al Shahania caused a major upset in the 51st Amir Cup by defeating Al Wakrah 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, moving into the quarter-finals. The second division team’s young goalkeeper, Bautista Burke, emerged as the hero of the match, saving two spot kicks to secure his team’s victory. Al Shahania only missed one penalty, and the rest of their penalty-takers were on target. On the other hand, only one of Al Wakrah’s penalties was saved, but the team missed the other two shots.

This unexpected victory against Al Wakrah, who are ranked fourth in Qatar’s top-flight QNB Stars League, is considered a remarkable achievement for Al Shahania. The team’s coach, Alvaro Mejia, who had previously expressed confidence in his team’s potential to beat Al Wakrah, praised his players’ performance and claimed that they deserved the victory.
