Desertification fight well positioned for Qatar
Qatar has the potential to lead the global fight against desertification, according to the Secretary-General of Expo 2023 Doha, Mohammed Al Khouri. He highlighted that Qatar faces some of the most pressing environmental challenges due to its tough and hot climate.
He explained that the six-month-long Expo 2023, which will run from October 2, 2023, to March 28, 2024, will focus on addressing the difficulties that hot desert nations encounter in the fields of desertification and sustainability. The event is expected to draw three million people from around the world.
Al Khouri emphasized that droughts are a significant threat to sustainable development, leading to unprecedented mobilization worldwide to fight desertification and promote afforestation projects in vulnerable areas, such as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Sub-Saharan Africa.
