Panelists agree sport can aid mental health

During a panel on the last day of the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH) 2022, Sir Mo Farah, the most successful British track athlete in modern Olympic Games history, discussed the positive effects of sport on mental health.

Together, Farah and the panel of experts (including seasoned journalist Stephen Sackur) discussed a range of relevant topics. WISH published a report on the benefits of sports for mental health, and the summit’s panellists debated its implications. Farah, who was a guest speaker at a conference on “Sport for Mental Health: A Global Strengths-based System,” reminisced on his incredible career as a long-distance runner, telling Sackur that running has always been an anchor for him, especially during times of uncertainty. He added that adults need to serve as role models and provide the essential support and encouragement if we are to successfully engage youngsters around the world in sport and movement.
