The President of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, has expressed confidence in Qatar’s ability to host a successful 2023 AFC Asian Cup, much like the country did with the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which was considered the best-ever edition of the football showpiece. The premier AFC tournament is scheduled to be held in January next year, with Qatar being the host to the continent’s best side.
Sheikh Salman remarked that Qatar was an obvious choice after the country’s success in hosting an incredible World Cup that was unparalleled. The AFC President attended many previous World Cup editions and the 2022 edition was exceptional and one of the most successful World Cup tournaments, he added, wishing that the Asian Cup will be one of the most successful Asian tournaments. He also praised the success of the 7th AFC Medical Conference, which was held in Doha for three days and concluded on Monday with around 600 participants in attendance.
