QatarEnergy has made a new discovery of light oil in Namibia’s offshore PEL-39 Exploration License, following its previous discoveries in the Graff-1 well and the Venus-1X prospect in February 2022. The Jonker-1X deep-water exploration well was drilled to a total depth of 6,168 meters in a water depth of 2,210 meters and further appraisal is planned to determine the size and recoverable potential of the discovery. QatarEnergy holds a 45% working interest in the license, while Shell serves as the operator with the same working interest, and the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia “NAMCOR” holds a 10% working interest.

His Excellency Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, expressed his satisfaction with the discovery, which is the company’s third in Namibia. He congratulated QatarEnergy’s partners and the government of the Republic of Namibia for their support of the exploration effort.
