Qatar Sports special 2023

Qatar is scheduled to host several athletic events and big tournaments this year alone. For all the sports enthusiasts, we have compiled all the major sporting events where Qatar will be representing the country and making it proud.

Regional events

The Asian Padel Championship, the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 Pre-Qualifiers, the Asia Professional Golf Tour, the West Asia Men’s Athletics Championship, the FIBA U16 Asian Championship, the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy, and the West Asia Men’s Squash Championship are among the main sporting events that are scheduled at the Asian level. The Doha Stars Artistic Gymnastics Championship, the Arab Squash Championship (Singles – Teams), the Arab Padel Tournament, and the Arab Judo Championship 2023 are the four competitions that will be hosted in Doha at the regional level for the Arab nations. The ninth GCC Sports Tournament for Universities and Higher Education Institutions, the GCC Squash Championship (Singles and Teams), the GCC 33 U16 Basketball Championship, the GCC 33 Basketball Championship from, the GCC Padel Championship, and the GCC Billiard and Snooker Championship are the five GCC-level sporting events that will take place in Doha in 2023.

National events

Qatar Basketball Cup Final, National Sports Day, QOC Challenge Championship (CrossFit), QOC Beach Games, Qatar Volleyball Cup final, the closing ceremony of Olympic Schools Program, HH the Amir Volleyball Cup final, Qatar Handball Cup Final, HH the Amir Handball Cup, HH the Amir Basketball Cup final, World Olympic Day, Sport Excellency Awards, The Flag Relay, in addition to the Amir Football Cup final, Qatar Football Cup Final and HH The Emir Sword Equestrian Festival.

International events

The Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) will hold the King of the Court Finals (Beach Volleyball), which will be followed by the Beach Pro Tour Finals, as the first significant event in January. The Elite 16 of the Beach Volleyball World Pro Tour will then take place in February 2023 at the QVA. The Qatar ExxonMobil Open and Qatar TotalEnergies Open will be held in February 2023 at venues hosted by the Qatar Tennis, Squash, and Badminton Federation. The Artistic Gymnastics World Cup 2023 will be held in Qatar by the Qatar Gymnastics Federation, one of four major international sporting events scheduled for March. The Qatar Golf Association will host the Qatar Open Amateur Championship, the Qatar Shooting & Archery Association will host the 2023 ISSF World-shotgun, and the Qatar Tennis, Squash, and Badminton Federation will host the Ooredoo Qatar Major Padel Championship.

The IJF World Judo Championship will take place in Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena in May 2023 in Doha, the center of sports in the world, which will continue to host major international athletic events. In addition, the FIBA 33 World Tour-Doha will be held in Qatar in 2023, which will offer additional international athletic events to the nation. The Qatar QTerminals Classic Squash Tournament will likewise be held in the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex and by the Qatar Tennis, Squash, and Badminton Association. The three most prominent international championships on this 2023 sporting calendar are the Longines Global Champions Tour, the show jumping qualification competition for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Qatar International Table Tennis Championship, and the 2023 Commercial Bank Sports World Championship. This year’s sporting events in the region’s sports hub also include the Qatar International Taekwondo Open Championship, the Qatar International Ice Hockey Open Championship, the Qatar Masters Golf Championship, the Qatar Grand Prix (Shotgun), the first leg of the FIP’s Official Padel Tour, and the Qatar International Weightlifting Cup (Grand Prix).
